“I am not my words”

Missed opportunities, lost friends, burnt bridges, lost jobs… My words are my greatest source of apprehension. Truthfully people’s interpretations of my words are what cause my silence. I lack confidence in my communication skills and because of that I miss the opportunity to talk to interesting people, learn new things, get invited to events, be involved in activities, and loose the chance to grow. I find comfort in disappearing into the background. This comfort is debilitating. Conquering this is an everyday battle.

Forcing myself to step out and trust that I am educated enough to speak articulately. I find myself being jealous of those who have the ability to speak freely, but I know that I am the only one who can change it.
